Dr Stephen James KrolPhD graduate and Research Fellow

Stephen is a musician, researcher and computer scientist with industry experience as a machine learning engineer.

He was awarded his PhD in 2026, under the supervision of Dr Maria Teresa Llano and Prof Jon McCormack. Contributing to the fields of both Machine Learning and Human-Computer Interaction, his research involved building deep learning generative models that professional musicians want to use.

Stephen is currently working in SensiLab as a Research Fellow on the ARC Funded project “Encoding Material Agency”, led by Professor Jon McCormack and Professor Roland Snooks (RMIT Architecture).
