Dr Rita Maria LahtinenPhD graduate

Rita Maria Lahtinen is an artist and researcher with an educational background in socio-legal law, as well as industry experience in writing and photography. She completed her PhD under the supervision of Prof Jon McCormack, Dr Vince Dziekan and Prof Melissa Miles in 2026.

Rita is an avid skater and surfer, and her research examined sociocultural aspects of contemporary beach culture through the lens of experimental video and sound design. Looking forward, she envisions her career continuously supporting women, especially within the arts and innovative industries.

In addition to a PhD, Rita holds a Bachelor of English Literature from Dalarna University and a Masters of Science in Law from Umeå University, Sweden.
