Design and building of customised autonomous drawing robots.

The robots are able to navigate around simple environments, accurately position themselves and draw complex patterns and shapes. These robots form part of a larger research project that seeks to apply self-organisational and structural building behaviours found in nature to creative robotics. We aim to develop a variety of different kinds of collaborative robotic systems that generate complexity using “bottom up” methods without any central control. For example, we use processes based on the theory of niche construction to design robot behaviours that create complex drawings whose structure arises from niche constructing behaviour.
